J. Barrett Shipp
Barrett received his Bachelor of Science in Political Science at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma and earned his law degree at St. Mary’s University School of Law in San Antonio, Texas. While at St. Mary’s, he was an elected senator in the Student Bar Association; a member and later Vice Chair of The Board of Advocates; and a staff writer for The Scholar: St. Mary’s Law Review on Minority Issues, where his law review comment on gubernatorial politics was awarded credit with distinction.
Barrett was previously in private practice and then joined the Bexar County Criminal District Attorney’s Office where he rose to the rank of felony prosecutor in the Appellate Division. In that capacity he handled appellate litigation in several appellate courts, including the Fourth Court of Appeals and the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals as a first and second chair attorney. Barrett became a partner at Heinrichs & De Gennaro, P.C., focusing on probate and fiduciary litigation, where he worked for eight years before joining Shipp Ecke, PLLC in January 2019.
